Wow. An epic night that will surely go down in the anus of perth history, nay WORLD HISTORY! as a great moment for mankind, a moment when two great bands came together to fill the world with joy and back slap each other whereupon two other bands also came along to bring the world twelve string guitars and smashed ray bans. The location of this magic was a small karaoke bar called Seizan. The stage area was a convoluted and confusing place, full of piling electrical hazards, historic mould carpet chunks, disco lighting, shitty pa and a light up floor.
Craig McElhinney, aka man of great volume and many strings, opened the royal proceedings with his magic tricks, unfortunately to my eternal regret I missed the first chunk of his set as I was busy inhaling japanese food at the related restaurant. This means I did not get a chance to record it. Bummer. This was the first time I'd seen Craigman playing twelve string and not through his 6X10, he says he swapped volume for strings.
Golden Staph took to the dance floor arena with vicious mission and sort've matching sun glasses. Aside from the slightly disturbing sight of Onton's JR shirt they played a blistering set full of brutally distorted organ, stadium drums, jesus freak guitar solos, jazz fusion vocals and punishing bass.
Wind Waker followed with a typically sloppy set. Sloppy enough to play an encore.
Taco Leg ascended the throne to deliver a big bag of power violent power ballads to a crowd of hungry hungry hippos.
They even covered a torch song about Tesla under the guise of Fred Durst Guitar Solo and encored with a cover of Gimme Gimme. I think the somewhat unfamiliarality of the venue made the circle pit a bit mild but what can you do?
All in all I think it's important to remember just who the greatest band in the world is.
P.S. All happy snaps by Thomas Rowe, he is good.
