Golden Staph and Bermuda @ Beatroute Records 30/07/2010

I found this in my archive of unorganised recordings, this was Golden Staph's last show before Onton moved to Berlin and Jess Vincent was playing drums for them by this time as Pat fucked off to Melbong a few months before that. The massive gap in the middle of the set is because the amp Tim was borrowing from Grim Fandango crapped out, comment by Craig.
I can remember the show vaguely, still have the ugly ningaloo reef poster I nicked from the staircase.
This might have been Tim Loughman's first show with Bermuda after taking over drums in Bermuda from Patrick O'Brien, who makes tables now. Bermuda stopped playing about 2 years ago, after Gene moved up north. There are photos and maybe some footage from this show somewhere.

Beatroute closed its doors a few months or so after this gig, Fat Shans is in the shop space now,
never bought a record from either.

Newly and very briefly reunited Golden Staph playing their first show in 17 months at Dada Records with Ruby Jeppe (Astral Travel/HXMeth) subbing for Clare Wohlnick on keys. They played two shows that day, the other is here.

Enjoy.

Golden Staph playing their second show of the day at 208. Launching their s/t LP which I recorded a long time ago and was released by RIP Society. The Staph also played a set at Real2Reel a week later which was sick. Hopefully the band will play some more shows someday but Onton (who now lives in Berlin) has a krewl nu-band called DiƤt and Pat (who lives in melbong) now plays in School of Radiant Living who are also sick.

Get it HERE.

Enjoy.

Golden Staph @ Dream 12-06-2010

Poster by the ever talented Jamie Douhan

Golden Staph playing in a circular fashion at Dream 12th July 2010. This is the Jess Vincent version of the band that did the second tour, I'm pretty sure they'd just come from a gig at Dada Records with The Trevallys an hour before this. Wind Waker also played but I forgot to press record, whoops.

Get it HERE.

Enjoy.

Golden Staph LP

For those unaware, Golden Staph were/are a short lived Perth punk band who formed in late '09, played their first show at the end November of that year and played their final show at the end of July last year. Between those dates they toured Australia twice and recorded 1 EP, 1 LP and 1 single. I had some great times recording those releases. The cassette EP was recorded in 2 hours in the middle room at Dream while The Preytells rehearsed for their final show* next door, which somehow came straight through the amp I nicked from my dad to lend Tim, so if any IndieJangleShitePop influence is evident on those frantic recordings you'll know why. This album was done a little differently though, we did bed Drum-Bass-Guitar recordings like professionals, albeit brutally hungover pros, and did the Organ and Vocals later, under more sober circumstances in a marathon 13 hour "session". The cover photos were taken in my parents backyard in Guildford, which for you other-staters is the home of good music in perf. The music was finished, mixed and mastered about a year ago but took a while to get released, probably because steam rolling band leader Onton moved OS around then. It's a weird sounding punk record chock-o-block full of brutal double fisted drums, smashing bass, ripping guitar hero pyroteknix, sinister organ and Amber singing and screaming in, above and throughout the mess.

Buy this record and thrash the fuck out of it. THE sound of Perth circa twenty ten.

ps I can verify that all members are fulysik MASSIV fans of SS & The Banshees and/or The Creatures.

*Thank fuck.

Valentine's Day at 208's 2010.

What's more romantic than crowding up in a punk house in maylands and sweating out your vital organs?

Nothing.

This was a tour fundraiser/tour starter show for Golden Staph and Taco Leg/Tape Launch for Golden Staph.
Which is a bucket load of rad. The Staph tape rips. It was recorded by some talented guy one December eve at Dream studios last year. You should buy it, while you are there buy the Taco Leg/Constant Mongrel split tape, it also rips. Both GS and TL are about to drop LP's. Tough.

I missed most of Desperate House, but what I heard was good, apparently they are dropping the regular pub circuit in favour of becoming a studio band, gay. I also didn't record Helta Skelta because they were fucking loud and I had no earplugs.
