WAMi's can SMD

This is the third year this blog has been running and still no WAMi recognition.

No nomination.

No award.

Not even a cupcake.

WahT dEh FuK?!?!?!

What a load of circlejerk bullshit.

No industry wristy for me :( guess I'll continue on in the vain hope that one day this humble website will approach the lofty music journalistic heights that FasterLouder achieve on such a regular basis.

Damo Suzuki & The Tigers @ The Bakery 12-11-2010

Chris Hudson and Damo Suzuki

Damo Suzuki & The Tigers at The Bakery 12th November 2010. I'm not sure what to say about this except that meeting Damo was one the most surreal moments of my life. What a dude. They did 2 sets but I missed the start because I was wasted.

GIG OF THE YEAR.

Taco Leg New LegP

Resemblance?

Yesterday I helped Taco Leg finish recording their new LP, it was a blast. In two 3 hour sessions about 20 songs were knocked out and many pastries were consumed, so pro. This album will define the next 20 years of Perth vegan straight edge Arch-core noise.

Water Temple @ The Bakery 15-05-2011

Water Temple's third show at The Bakery 15th May 2011. Hear that floor tom roar/womble. Clearly Perth's best and most attractive tech-thrash/death influenced band.

"Can I just put my ipod behind here?"

Mental Powers @ Norfolk Basement 16-07-2010.

Mental Powers playing on the floor at Norfolk Basement 16th July 2010. Cracker set from a tops band. Lewis thought someone nicked all his hand made wood drum things after they played, turns out they weren't.

Get it HERE.

Enjoy.

Wind Waker @ Norfolk Basement 16-07-2010.

Look to the stars, you'll say that there are no Kung Fu Bicycles there.

Wind Waker playing at the Norfolk Basement 16th July 2010. Probably one of the better shows of the Ringham/WWII era of the band. Too much gtr in this recording though. Some girl tried to pick me up after the gig so it must've been a good set.

Enjoy.

Pond "Frond" LP Launch @ Norfolk Basement 16-07-2010

Pond launching their third album Frond at the Norfolk Basement 16th July 2010. Introduction by Ben Stewart. Hear Gumby throw some drunk girl off the stage before they start, it was even funnier IRL.

Golden Staph @ Dream 12-06-2010

Poster by the ever talented Jamie Douhan

Golden Staph playing in a circular fashion at Dream 12th July 2010. This is the Jess Vincent version of the band that did the second tour, I'm pretty sure they'd just come from a gig at Dada Records with The Trevallys an hour before this. Wind Waker also played but I forgot to press record, whoops.

Get it HERE.

Enjoy.

Taco Leg @ Dream 12-06-2010

Taco Leg playing at Dream 12th July 2010. I think this was like the launch for the Taco Leg/Constant Mongrel split cassette which as far as I can tell sold out yonks ago. teh Leg have been recording recently at Stable Sound, 13 songs done in one 2 and a half hour session and a few more to come. I think they're doing 1 LP and 2 singles.

Astral Travel @ Amplifier 08-01-2011

The mighty Astral Travel supporting TOSS at cramplifier 8th January 2011. I nicked these photos from a number of shitty websites, no full band photos and not all members? Apparently:

"Astral Travel survived the first part of the night on powerchords and low expectations. Their sound is a revival of chick grunge of the 90’s. It’s loud, it’s angsty and rough around the edges. Aside from some sloppy timing, accompanied with the raw shouting and wailing female vocals, it’s not half bad."

Yeah not really hey, fasterlouder continue to dominate the field of shithouse music reviews.

Sabre Tooth Tigers @ Amplifier 08-01-2011

Historical perth veteran rock combo Sabre Tooth Tigers supporting TOSS at Amplifier 08th January 2011. Somehow this is the STT set on here, weird. Cracker tops set from the boys here, these boys don't mess around according to steffwantssugar over at fl. Don't glass each other.

Enjoy.

Thee Oh Sees @ Amplifier 08-01-2011

Looka dat fucken ranga on de left aye, what a dikhed.

Cali band Thee Oh Sees playing at Amplifier 08th of January 2011. I didn't think much of the band on the night* and still don't, nice guys I think but it just reminds me of bad pop punk where they always make faces and turn their head sideways and shit. Another gig where the os headliner pales in comparison to our local boys aye.

Get it HERE.

Enjoy.

*I was pretty wasted earlier but by the time TOS went on I was too sober to have a good time, this may have affected my opinion of said band.

Healing Crystal Meth @ The Bird 04-05-2011

Healing Crystal Meth playing a trio set at The Bird 4th of May 2011. Good set of synth marred by occasional fucked noises, I think the pa didn't get on with the 808.

Get it HERE.

Enjoy.

Constant Mongrel @ 208 11-06-2010

Constant Mongrel playing their first WA show at 208 11th July 2010. Sick show, great duudes. See them eat giant sandwiches and drink spearmint chills, hear them cut sick.

Bermuda @ 208 11-06-2010

Short set from Bermuda playing at 208 11th of June 2010. This was Tim Loughman's first gig playing drums with them, he replaced the then dearly departed Pat O'Brien. Amber Gempton playing bass here in the place of Thomas Rowe who was in Thailand taking happy snaps of small boys. The photo comes from the recent Crustacean cup, Tim's (pictured) team lost to a bunch of aggressive douchebags.

Get it HERE, cuts in at start.

Golden Staph LP

For those unaware, Golden Staph were/are a short lived Perth punk band who formed in late '09, played their first show at the end November of that year and played their final show at the end of July last year. Between those dates they toured Australia twice and recorded 1 EP, 1 LP and 1 single. I had some great times recording those releases. The cassette EP was recorded in 2 hours in the middle room at Dream while The Preytells rehearsed for their final show* next door, which somehow came straight through the amp I nicked from my dad to lend Tim, so if any IndieJangleShitePop influence is evident on those frantic recordings you'll know why. This album was done a little differently though, we did bed Drum-Bass-Guitar recordings like professionals, albeit brutally hungover pros, and did the Organ and Vocals later, under more sober circumstances in a marathon 13 hour "session". The cover photos were taken in my parents backyard in Guildford, which for you other-staters is the home of good music in perf. The music was finished, mixed and mastered about a year ago but took a while to get released, probably because steam rolling band leader Onton moved OS around then. It's a weird sounding punk record chock-o-block full of brutal double fisted drums, smashing bass, ripping guitar hero pyroteknix, sinister organ and Amber singing and screaming in, above and throughout the mess.

Buy this record and thrash the fuck out of it. THE sound of Perth circa twenty ten.

ps I can verify that all members are fulysik MASSIV fans of SS & The Banshees and/or The Creatures.

*Thank fuck.
